What else about that elusive satisfaction named “Happiness”?
I promised I would tell you more about the truth behind getting to and staying happy.
In my last post, I wrote that experts suggest you should exercise more, eat less, have relationship meetings, meditation and mediation, hire out, drink less, smoke less, walk more, and so on.
They say doing all this helps you deal and manage stress in the moment. Then you “could” stay happier. Oh Yeah?
Let me start here.
If you constantly feel unhappy, chances are, 93% of the issue is likely a result of regret! And what’s more, most of that is taken in from other people’s opinions and suggestions – it’s not even YOU!
Regret you say? Well, let’s think about it.
How often do you find yourself saying, “I wish I had done that. I wish I hadn’t done that. I wish this could have been different. I shouldn’t have. I should have…”
How often do you hear from others, “Wish you had come yesterday. Wish you hadn’t said that. Wish we had met before I got married. Wish you weren’t born!…”
We talk about not “shoulding” all over ourselves, but if I’m being totally honest here, a should is simply a regret disguised.
What you are doing is reinforcing in your mind, body and subconscious that the past is more important – was more important – than where and what you are doing today!
You have today only once! If you decide to lament about what could have been, you are sorely missing opportunities that could be floating right in front of your eyes and you won’t see them!
Reliving and rehashing past experiences is damaging!
What most people don’t realize is that the past does not exist. Nope – it doesn’t exist! It too is a memory and elusive. Most people don’t even get the story right years later!
The past is some inkling or memory of thick energy that could be your major source of irritation. In fact, depending on the emotional hook of a past experience, it could literally make you sick.
Studies are proving that the stress of regret is causing not just minor irritations, but major diseases in your body. And we’re not just talking about the cold or aches that put you in bed to rest kind. We’re talking about the big ones like cancer, heart attacks, strokes and dementia’s!
According to a recent article by Brain Mossop, in Scientific American, “A life of tension may hasten the onset of Alzheimer’s.”
Yoi! And that’s just one medical resource. I found dozens of medical journals and doctors finally agreeing that stress is a direct result of regret and staying stuck!
And again, even with some findings and medical advice, unhappiness prevails.
So how can you release some of the energetic tension you hold onto that keeps you feeling regret?
I talk a lot in my book, “The Most Powerful Person on Earth!” about different ways to release unproductive habits. And one of the most effective, simple and popular methods is bubbling out the energetic culprits!
Here’s how to do this:
- Imagine your regret and see that it literally sits inside your body. Find it hiding behind your heart, back of your throat, or it could even be down around your knees.
- Now, close your eyes, put your left hand out and imagine a large beautiful bubble sitting on the palm. Inside the bubble is a powerful magnet pointing directly to the regret you found in your body. Allow the magnet to “swoosh” out the regret energy into the bubble.
- When it feels complete, put out your right hand and imagine a 2nd bubble sitting on the palm. Inside this 2nd bubble is another very powerful magnet pointing to the first bubble.
- Allow the 2nd magnet to draw out your power, energy, lightness, boldness, happiness and any loving energy that is yours in the first place out of the regret sitting in the 1st bubble.
- When that feels complete, pop the first bubble and allow it to fly away into the cosmos and disappear!
- Take the lighter, brighter energy of the 2nd bubble and pop it back into you.
Done. Now Check in a few minutes later and notice how you feel. Your imagination is the most powerful mechanism – it’s what helps you create your life, your steps, your inspirations. Trust it!
I have some good news and some bad news!
This is still not the key to perpetual happiness – yet!
You may want to dig deeper and take another look at any regret you may be hiding, sharing, reminding or even trying to live out today. Regret is simply a memory that can infest a healthy mind and has the power to create disease!
Caroline Myss wrote, “Do you really want to look back on your life and see how wonderful it could have been had you not been afraid to live it?”
It’s a start to happiness.
Are you ready to find out what else the key to perpetual happiness is?
I invite you to stay tuned for the next post when I unveil an even deeper answer! This one will have you even more intrigued and surprised, you will wonder why no one ever told you this before!
I do hate to leave you … still in the fog… but heck, what’s a few more days?!?
2012 holds new opportunities! It also holds a significant spiritual position.
Remember,
Great job!
Patricia
I've never been a fan of, or really even understood, regret. Everything I've done or haven't done has been a life lesson and made me the person I am today. And besides, you can't change the past, so what can you possibly get from having regret? I'm too focused on creating the future I want to be looking back!
iChoose2 Live without regrets! Life is too short to live in the past wishing there were different. I want to be intentionally about living a life that I truly love! I think it's really important to identify our priorities and then be intentional about living into those priorities.
Regret is like watching reruns of your life. Repeats never change. Changing behavior now can be such a wonderful way to release regret. Thanks for the great post, Patricia!
Regret is something we must all be willing to let go or it will certainly destroy us…thank you for sharing this article with us:)
Great article, Patricia. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights. Having regret is really something we should get rid of.
Great post. Next time I say "I wish I would have…." I am going to be thinking about this. You are right, living with regret is not helping us become more happy. Loved the read!
Good post! Living with regret will eat you from the inside out. We are to forget about tomorrow and live for today. Thanks for sharing!
Regret is a killer! I know that and yet… it still comes very subtly into my thoughts. How to get rid of it totally? It has to begin with forgiveness of self & others, I think – AND – living Today. Leaving behind what should be left behind. Like Joel Osteen said once: There's a reason the rearview mirror is smaller than the windshield – it's because we should be looking forward instead of backward. Love that! Thanks for your insights! x0x

Hi Norma, about those pesky thoughts about regret? As you become aware, say, thanks for sharing to them, let them go, and of course if the roots are a bit deeper, bubble them out!! great job! Patricia
Thank you Patricia for this wonderful article. Your tips on " different ways to release unproductive habits" is excellent! I've read it twice! Wishing you a magnificent 2012!
Thanks Alexandra! I aim to please!!
Regret is something we have to be free of! Thank you Patricia for this insightful article. I absolutely love living in NOW, there is never a better place… so true! 🙂
Amazing insights here Patricia. I find the statement specifically interesting "Regret is simply a memory that can infest a healthy mind and has the power to create disease!" I have an uncle who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last year; he has signed medically resigned from lifelong service in Law Enforcement.
Regret is a heavy burden. We all seem to have some form of it, but we should not let it stop us from taking action.
The experience we gained taught us something. As long as we learned something, it can be viewed as a lesson.
Thanks for sharing,
AJ
Thank you all in advance of your posts! I know this helps in rankings and it feels good too! love to all, Patricia
